Exam rules are determined by your institution; check with your program or academic integrity office for details on your institution’s specific exam rules.

Rosalyn recommends the following best practices for taking an online exam. We recognize that individual circumstances may prevent an examinee from following all of the recommendations outlined below. If you have concerns regarding your Testing Program’s specific exam rules and parameters, reach out to your instructor or academic integrity office.

Rosalyn Exam Best Practices:

  • Use a private test area.

    • Make sure that you are alone for the duration of the exam.

    • Ideally, you will be in a quiet, well-lit room.

Note: The AI will flag “other person” events in which another person comes into the video frame. If you must take your exam in a room with others, try to find a quiet area where no one will inadvertently walk behind you during the exam.

  • Do not interact with others.

    • Do not speak with anyone during the exam.

  • Other materials are not allowed.

    • For your exam, supplemental materials such as books, textbooks, notes, or other non-digital materials are not allowed to be referenced.

  • Only one mouse, keyboard, and monitor/display are allowed during the exam.

    • Use of a second monitor, or any software that allows you to share your computer, or grant remote access to your computer, is not allowed during the exam.

  • No additional devices are allowed.

    • Please turn off your devices (except your testing computer). This includes iPads, iPods, tablets, smartwatches, or electronic dictionaries.

    • Headphones may not be used while testing with Rosalyn (including earbuds, AirPods, headsets, etc.)

  • Face must be visible in the camera view.

    • Please attempt to remain in the camera view for the duration of your exam.

    • We recommend that you keep your face uncovered.

Note: If you need to keep your face covered for medical, religious, or other personal reasons and have concerns about AI flags, please check with your Testing Program. Rosalyn is committed to creating an equitable and inclusive testing environment regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or transgender status), age, disability, or genetics. See our website to learn more about our commitment to equitable, inclusive, and accessible testing.

  • No other Apps or browser tabs are allowed.

    • Rosalyn requires all applications on your computer to be closed prior to taking your exam.

Note: Some testing programs may allow in-app browser links for specific exams, but regular browsers will be unavailable for the exam duration.

  • Sharing of the exam content is prohibited.

    • You MUST NOT share the content of your exam with anyone.

    • Do not use any copy, cut, or paste function with your mouse, keyboard, voice command, or device.

    • Do not take any screenshots or photos of your computer screen during the exam.
