Rosalyn & Exam Scheduling

Scheduling of online assessments has historically been a challenge for remote proctoring vendors. Many of Rosalyn’s competitors require examinees to schedule their remote proctoring session days (or even weeks) in advance. This is so the vendor can allocate their human proctors to examinees.

Rosalyn has flipped this model by not requiring advanced scheduling. Rosalyn’s remote proctoring service is available 24/7/365. There are several reasons as to why Rosalyn can provide this level of instant access:

  1. Rosalyn’s Human-in-the-Loop model means that our proctors are not allocated to specific individual examinees. Rather, our proctors are scheduled to monitor AI flagged events. This makes our proctors much more efficient, and it reduces potential proctor bias as well.

  2. Rosalyn does collect Assessment schedule data in advance. When an assessment is enabled with Rosalyn, the assessment’s scheduling data is also retrieved.

The scheduling data that Rosalyn collects comes in a few forms:

  1. Open ended – the assessment is “published” and is available to examinees whenever they are ready.

  2. Due date only - examinees can perform the assessment at any time up to a defined due date.

  3. Fixed - the assessment has a specific period of time when examinees can take the exam.

Rosalyn uses a combination of historic data (the timing of exams that have already happened) and scheduling data (the timing of exams that will happen in the near future) to determine the proctoring resources (both AI and human) required to support our customers. 99% of the time our proctoring system has been able to immediately support our examinees. When we haven’t, our system does put the examinee into a Waiting Room where they can wait until the necessary Rosalyn resources become available.

Our customers can help us avoid situations where examinees need to be placed in the Rosalyn Waiting Room by doing the following:

  • If an exam does have a fixed start time and/or end time, be sure to define them on your assessment. For example, for a Canvas quiz, make sure that the Due, Available from, and Until values are defined.

  • If your exam is Open ended, but you know that most examinees will be taking the exam during a short time period, please contact your Rosalyn support representative ahead of time.

    • If this isn’t possible, then inform your examinees that they may be placed in the Rosalyn Waiting Room prior to the exam (to help reduce any potential anxiety)
