Rosalyn Proctoring Overview

Although AI-based remote proctoring may seem like a complicated and intimidating concept, it is actually fairly simple. This article will break down the process into it parts, but the following diagram provides a high level overview:

Rosalyn Artificial Intelligence System

When an Examinee performs an exam using Rosalyn, the Rosalyn Test Application ensures that the Examinee’s video, microphone and screen-sharing are enabled. Doing so ensures that the Rosalyn Artificial Intelligence System can monitor the Examinee’s activity in real-time. The Rosalyn Artificial Intelligence System is computer software that has been trained to recognize a wide range of Examinee behaviors.

Some behaviors or actions are not permitted per the exam rules set by the Examinee’s program. Common examples of prohibited actions include but are not limited to: using a cell phone, talking to another person in the room, using another computer, and using unapproved test materials. Test rules are set by the testing program; if you have questions about the exam rules, reach out to your instructor, academic integrity office, or testing program. If and when a prohibited behavior or action occurs, the Rosalyn Artificial Intelligence System generates a proctoring event and sends it to Rosalyn’s Human Proctors.

Rosalyn Human Proctors

Rosalyn employs a group of trained proctors. Unlike other proctoring tools, Rosalyn’s proctors are not allocated to watch Examinees. Instead, Rosalyn’s proctors work directly with the proctoring events that the Rosalyn Artificial Intelligence System generates. These events are sent into a queue that Rosalyn’s Human Proctors actively monitor.

For each proctoring event, the proctor will evaluate if the event was an actual violation of the exam rules or was falsely flagged. False flags are thrown away. Actual events are flagged for Instructor review.

Final Review

After the exam is complete, your professor or a designated reviewer will be notified and will have access to the full recording of the exam session. Any events passed along by Rosalyn’s Human Proctors will be reviewed during this stage.

Based on the provided information, the designated reviewer will make the final decision if the exam session was cleared or flagged. If you have concerns regarding a flagged exam or feel your exam was flagged in error, reach out to your program or academic integrity office.
